A chamber judge of the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order that suspended a previous order that had asked Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader to refrain from party activities.

The politician will not be able to perform his duties as the Jatiya Party chairman for the time being, his lawyers told the media on Wednesday.

The chamber judge court headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order.

Earlier, the High Court on Tuesday suspended the ban on GM Quader to perform his activities as chairman of the Jatiya Party as per the party's constitution.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal stayed till January 3 a Dhaka court directive that on November 16 had upheld an injunction order asking GM Quader to refrain from participating in party activities.

The court passed the order following a revision petition filed by GM Quader challenging the lower court order, said his lawyer Sheikh Muhammed Serajul Islam.

Earlier, on November 16, a Dhaka court upheld an order that had asked GM Quader to refrain from party activities.

The court of Dhaka First Joint District Judge Masudul Haque passed the order, scrapping a plea of GM Quader, challenging the earlier order.

Party's suspended leader and former lawmaker Ziaul Haque Mridha filed the case against GM Quader on October 4 and the court on October 31 issued the order.
