A petition was filed with a Dhaka court on Tuesday seeking its permission to file a case against 14 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League in connection with the attacks on Chhatra Odhikar Parishad members on Dhaka University campus and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on October 7.
Bin Yamin Mollah, president of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad filed the plea with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin Ahmed.
The court is likely to pass an order after recording the statement of the plaintiff, reports Bangla Tribune.
Earlier on October 7, police detained 24 students, including 22 Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad activists, in front of DMCH following a clash between the parties over arranging a program in memory of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
Later, the students were shown arrested after a BCL activist filed a case with Shahbagh police station, accusing the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad activists of creating unrest and attacking Chhatra League members.
Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Buet, was beaten to death by Chhatra League leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall in 2019. He was found dead on the hall's staircase in the early hours of October 7, after he was taken to room No 2011 the previous night.
On December 8 last year, a Dhaka court sentenced 20 BCL members to death and five others to life imprisonment for the murder.
