Court orders not to harass 7 Eden College Chhatra League activists

On September 25, two clashes reportedly took place at Eden College that injured at least 12 people

A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered police not to harass seven activists of Eden College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League in connection with clash between the two factions of the ruling party student wing on the college campus.

The seven members of the suspended committee are Rupa Rani Dutta, Sheikh Sanjida, Sanjida, Maria, Sharmin Akhtar, Monika Talukder, Maeda Begum and Tanjila Akhtar.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Salim and Md Zakir Hossain on Wednesday passed the order after hearing their bail application.

On September 25, two clashes reportedly took place at Eden College that injured at least 12 people.

Riva and Razia Sultana, the president and general secretary, have been allegedly involved in several illegal activities including seat trading, extortion, student torture and taking control of hostels and the canteen. They even started extortion from foot-way shops.

Bangladesh Chhatra League on September 25 also suspended the activities of its Eden College committee following the clashes between two factions of the organization.  

At the same time, 16 members were permanently expelled from the organization for violating its regulations, said a notice signed by Chhatra League President Al Nahian Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee.
