A Narsingdi court on Monday put the man accused of assaulting a woman over her outfit at a railway station on a three-day remand.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Mehnaz Siddiqui passed the order
after police produced the accused before the court seeking a seven-day remand, said Narsingdi Railway police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Emayedul Jahedi.
A case was filed under sections 10 and 30 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Bhairab railway police station against some 13 people, he added.
Ismail Hossain was arrested for physically assaulting a woman over her outfit in Narsingdi railway station on Friday.
He physically assaulted the woman, who was on her way to Dhaka from Narsingdi on Wednesday.
According to witnesses, the woman and two of her friends were waiting for the Dhaka Mail train leaving Chittagong.
At that time, a middle-aged woman standing at the station made some offensive remarks about her outfit.
A heated argument started between the two parties after the young women protested against her.
Later, the older woman physically assaulted the young woman, while her friends tried to save her.
Meanwhile, some men standing joined the argument with the older woman.
Later, the young woman along with her friends went to the station master's room for safety.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday morning, sparking criticism.
