Four get life term for killing BGB man in Gopalganj

14 other accused have been acquitted of the murder charges

A Goplaganj court on Monday sentenced four people to life imprisonment for murdering a member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the then Bangladesh Rifles, in 2005. 

The court Gopalganj Additional District and Session Judge Md Abbas Uddin also fined the four convicts Tk50,000 each for the same crime and acquitted 14 others of their charges. 

The four convicts are Samchul Haque, 61, Liakat Sheikh, 59, Rawshan Sheikh, 56, and Raja Fakir, 56. 

The case says  that the convicts had a previous enmity with Hiru. 

On February 25, 2005, they attacked Hiru while he was returning home from the local mosque at around 8pm. Hiru was severely injured in the attack and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. 

The next day, Jonaki Begum, the wife of the deceased, filed a case with Kashiani police station.

Police submitted the charge sheet in the case on May 30 the same year.
