Police have submitted a charge sheet against Dr Salauddin Chowdhury, the suspended assistant professor of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College, in a case filed over sexually harassing a female student.
Sub-Inspector of Ramna police station Salman Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on Monday to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court.
On January 13, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin Ahmed had granted ad-interim bail to the accused after hearing the bail petition in the presence of the victim where both parties placed their submissions in the case.
On December 29 last year, personnel of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Dr Salauddin after a female student filed a case against him with Ramna police station under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
The teacher was sent to jail after a court rejected both his remand and bail prayers the following day.
According to the case statement, beginning on September 9, 2020, Salauddin made multiple offensive offers to the student over Facebook Messenger. When he saw her on the campus, he requested her to remove the texts.
Dr Salauddin contacted the student during online classes at different times and asked her to meet him at his place. He also threatened to fail her in her tests if she ignored his advances.
The physician was later suspended by the college authorities.
