A Dhaka court on Thursday granted ad-interim bail to Dr Salauddin Chowdhury, suspended assistant professor of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College, in a case filed for sexually harassing a female student.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin Ahmed passed the order after hearing the bail petition in presence of the accused, where both parties placed their submissions in the case.
The court granted him bail until January 18, the next scheduled date in the case.
On December 29, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the teacher after the student filed a case against him with Ramna police station under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
According to the case statement, beginning on September 9, 2020, Salauddin made multiple offensive offers to the student over Facebook Messenger. When he saw her on the campus, he requested her to remove the texts.
Dr Salauddin contacted the student during online classes at different times and asked her to meet him at his place. He also threatened to fail her in tests if she ignored his advances.
The physician was later suspended by the college authorities.
