Graft Case: Indictment hearing against Samrat on August 28

His bail has been extended till the date in the case

A Dhaka court on Thursday set August 28 for hearing on framing charges, against expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Following a petition filed by Samrat's lawyer Afroza Shahnaz Parvin Hira on Thursday, Special Judge Court-6 Judge Manzurul Imam fixed the new date. 

Samrat was present at the court during the hearing.

On Thursday (today), Dhaka's Special Court-6 was scheduled to hold a hearing of framing charges. 

Meanwhile, his lawyer filed a petition for permanent bail.

His bail has been extended till the date (August 28) in the case.

Earlier on June 1, A Dhaka court ordered to return Samrat's passport to him for two months. 

The court also permitted him to go abroad for treatment.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along with his associate and also former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman from a village in Comilla's Chauddagram upazila on October 6, 2019.

On November 12 in the same year, ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed a case against him for amassing wealth worth of around Tk3 crore beyond his known income sources.

The anti-corruption watchdog submitted a charge sheet against him on November 26, 2020, accusing him for rallying wealth worth of over Tk222.88 crore beyond his known income sources.
