A Dhaka Court on Sunday sentenced Md Aktar Sardar, 39, to life term imprisonment in a case filed on charges of raping his seven-year-old daughter in Dhaka.
Judge Begum Shamsunnahar of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 handed down the verdict with the lone accused in attendance.
The court also fined him Tk50,000, in default of which he would have to spend six more months in jail.
According to the case, Md Aktar Sardar raped his daughter at his residence in the Hazaribagh area of the capital when her mother went to a nearby house on April 15, 2018. The victim’s mother filed a case with Hazaribagh police station over the incident, accusing Aktar.
Aktar gave his confessional statement in the case after he was arrested.
Police submitted the charge sheet accusing Aktar on November 14, 2018. The trial began on April 4, 2019.
All nine prosecution witnesses testified before the court in the case.
