Man sentenced to death for murder in Kurigram

A Kurigram court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for a murder he commited 12 years ago.

The convicted is Mahlam Miya, 48, son of late Basok Sheikh from Kuti Bamondanga village of Nageshwari upazila.

Kurigram District and Session Judge Abdul Mannan handed down the verdict around 12pm, confirmed Public Prosecutor Abraham Lincoln.

On January 25 of 2008, Mahlam hacked his rival Aminur Islam with a chopper during a community arbitration that had aimed to solve their disputes.

Having sustained severe injuries from the incident, Aminur passed away after being hospitalized for 22 days, according to the case dockets.

In September, two people were sentenced to death by Kurigram District and Session Judge court. However in August, no such verdicts were given by the court.
