Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, the widow of murdered youth Rifat Sharif, has filed an appeal with the High Court, challenging the death sentence delivered by a Barguna court.
Her lawyer ZI Khan Panna submitted the appeal at the High Court Division on Tuesday afternoon, seeking Minni’s acquittal, her defence team confirmed.
On September 30, six people including Minni were sentenced to death in the murder case, while four others were acquitted.
The Barguna court that day delivered the verdict against 10 adult accused in the sensational murder case.
They are Rifat Faraji, 23, Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akan, 21, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 19, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy, 22, Md Hasan, 19, Md Musa, 22, Minni, 19, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, 20, Md Sagar, 19, and Kamrul Hasan Saymun, 21.
The sixth accused, Musa, is currently on the run.

On June 26, 2019, 22-year-old Rifat Sharif was mercilessly hacked by a group of individuals in broad daylight in Barguna town.
He died from his injuries at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital later that evening.
The next day, Rifat’s father filed the murder case at Sadar police station.
On September 1 that year, police submitted two separate charge sheets against Minni and 23 others, including 10 adults and 14 minors.
On January 8 this year, another Barguna court had framed charges against 14 juvenile accused.
On August 10, judicial proceedings in the murder case resumed after five months due to the coronavirus pandemic. The trial against the 10 adult accused began at the same court.
