The High Court has rejected a bail petition filed by the suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Khandaker Enamul Basir, in a case filed over allegations of exchanging Tk40 lakh in bribe with suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman.
It also asked the lower court to complete his trial within one year.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam issued the order on Tuesday.
Advocate Faruque Alamgir Chowhdury stood for the petitioner while Advocate Kurshid Alam Khan represented the commission.
Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
Earlier on February 9, 2020, a Dhaka court accepted the charge sheet against Mizanur Rahman and Khandaker Enamul Basir.
At the same time, the court transferred the case documents to Dhaka Special Judge's Court 4 for quick disposal of the trial, and fixed April 4 for hearing on a framing of charges against the two men in the corruption case.
According to an ACC inquiry report, suspended ACC Director Basir took Tk40 lakh from ex-DIG Mizan for the purpose of removing the latter's name from a charge sheet in a graft case.
Earlier on July 16, 2019, ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah filed the case against Enamul with the Dhaka district coordination office-1 of the ACC under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, charging Basir with taking Tk40 lakh in bribe from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman.
