Two among four suspects on Tuesday gave confessional statements before a Tangail court regarding the gang rape of three ninth graders on Sunday.
Yousuf Ali and Md Babul confessed before the benches of Judicial Magistrate Sumon Kumar Karmakar and Senior Judicial Magistrate Ariful Islam. Along with them, another accused, Sujon Babu, was sent to jail by the court, sources say.
The three rape survivors recorded their statements about the incident at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court, Tangail court police Inspector Tanvir Ahammad said.
Ghatail Police OC Saiful Islam said: "Three police teams are investigating the incident. We cannot reveal the case details before the investigation ends."
Earlier on Sunday, four schoolgirls went to visit Ghatail Cantonment area along with their friends. During the visit the four arrestees along with some other men kept the group captive and raped and sexually harassed the girls.
Two minors raped in two districts
Two minors were raped, one of them a mentally challenged child in Noakhali and Rajshahi.
An 11-year-old child was reportedly raped on Tuesday by her cousin in Subarnachar's Bhuiyahat area of Noakhali, reports our Noakhali correspondent Ranajit Chandra Kuri.
Finding the mentally challenged child alone in her house, the accused, Rakib, 18, lured the child with chocolate and raped her on Tuesday around 8am. Later the family along with locals informed the police and took the injured minor to Noakhali General Hospital, police have said.
"Four teams of police are conducting drives in different areas to arrest the accused Rakib and the filing of a case is underway," said OC Ibrahim Khalil of Char Jabbar police station.
In Rajshahi, police on Tuesday arrested Rasel Hossain, 26, on charges of raping a madrasa student in Mohanpur in November 25, 2019, reports our Rajshahi correspondent Dulal Abdullah.
"Acting on the case filed by the girl's father on Monday police arrested Rasel and sent him to jail on Tuesday through producing him in court," said Mohanpur police station OC Mostak Ahmmed.
