The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against former Counselor of Bangladesh High Commission in Canada, Maksud Khan.

The approval came on Thursday, and the charge sheet is expected to be submitted to the court soon, reports UNB.

ACC Deputy Director (head office) Mahbubul Alam, now serving at its district office Chittagong-2, filed the case against Maksud Khan for reportedly embezzling over Tk2.5 crore.

The case was filed with Shahbagh police station on December 13, 2017.

The case statement revealed that Maksud siphoned off the money, equivalent to about 415,000 Canadian dollars, from government funds allocated for Machine Readable Passport (MRP) project.

There are also further allegations that Maksud, who was also the Personal Secretary (PS) to the then Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, allegedly took money from many expatriate Bangladeshis promising them help to resolve their MRP-related issues.
