The High Court (HC) has ordered the disposal of an application seeking to prevent brick kilns from functioning on farmland and cutting of mountains in Chittagong’s Lohagara upazila within 15 days.
The bench of Justice Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order on Tuesday, after hearing a writ petition that was filed in this regard.
The court also issued a ruling to the respondents of the application— the director general of the Environment Department, director of Chittagong Environment Department, District Commissioner of Chittagong, and Lohagara Upazila Nirbahi Officer—to answer within four weeks.
Advocate Amit Dasgupta represented the writ petition.
On May 8, 2019, Supreme Court lawyer Rashida Chowdhury sent a letter to the four respondents in regard to this matter; however they did not take any steps to resolve it.
