Key suspect remanded over assault on Jamuna TV jurnos in Bogra

The key suspect accused of assaulting a two-member investigation team of Jamuna TV journalists in Bogra has been remanded for two days.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahriar on Wednesday granted the remand for two days, despite the initial prayer for five-days.

The key suspect, Belal Hossain Munna was picked up by the police on Thursday.

According to the case statement, Jamuna TV’s ‘Investigation 360 Degree’ team was tasked with producing investigative stories on different drug rehabilitation centres across the country.

On January 17, as part of their investigation, a team of two went to the Real Life Rehabilitation Centre located in the city’s colony area around 12pm. 

Initially, the rehab centre employees allowed them in, however they suddenly turned hostile when the journalists began recording their irregularities.  

At least eight to 10 men held them captive at gunpoint and took part in the assault and forced them to wipe off their collected data. 

After being informed, Bogra Sadar police came to their rescue and arrested three men from the scene.

The three arrested suspects were identified as Nur Mohammad, 38, Palash Kumar Das, 33, and Arku, 28.

Subsequently, one of the victims, Staff Reporter SM Zia, filed a case with the Sadar police station accusing three men along with 10-12 unknown individuals.

Bogra Sadar police station Sub Inspector (investigation) Rahim Uddin said: “The suspect in custody will be taken into remand for interrogation, which will aid us in arresting the rest of the suspects.”
