A Chittagong tribunal on Wednesday sentenced two brothers to death in absentia for killing a neighbour over a land dispute about eight years ago.
According to the case dockets, the brothers, Khorshedul Alam alias Abul Kalam and Jahedul Alam,from Nanupur under Katikchhari upazila of Chittagong, hacked Yunus Sareng, 50, to death over a land dispute on April 11, 2011.
The victim's wife, Khadiza Akhter, filed the murder case. Police submitted a charge sheet against the accused siblings on June 5, 2011.
The case was later transferred to the Speedy Trail Tribunal and after examining all the records, it handed down the verdict on Wednesday.
Judge Abdul Halim of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal read out the verdict in a packed courtroom in absence of the two accused.
The condemned men were also fined Tk5 lakh each in default.
