The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order that halted the proceedings of a case filed for corruption in embankment of haor areas in Sunamganj that caused massive losses during last year's flash flood.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division of headed by acting chief justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, passed the order on Tuesday after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also asked the High Court to dispose the rule on Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said with the fresh Supreme Court order there will be no bar from now to resume the probe in this connection.
Earlier on December 12, the High Court stayed the proceedings of the case for three months after hearing writ petition filed by one of the accused in the case Bachchu Mia.
It also issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the case will not be declared illegal.
On July 2, ACC assistant director Faruq Ahmed filed the corruption case against 61 people, including several officials of Water Development Board and contractors with Sunamganj police station.
