Blogger Rajeeb murder verdict any day

The High Court will pronounce its appeal verdict in the blogger Ahmed Rajeeb Haider case any day. The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain  have   completed 22 days hearing on the death convicts' death reference and convicts' appeal hearing on Monday and kept waiting the verdict to be delivered on any day. The hearing was started on November 7 last year on priority basis. On December 31, 2015 a speedy trial tribunal awarded death penalty to two persons-- Foysal Bin Nayeem alias Dwip and Rezanur Azad Rana. It also handed down life term imprisonment to Maksudul Hassan Anik and awarded Ahsanur Reza Rumman, Nafis Imtiaz, Nayeem Shikdar Irad to 10 years in jail. The court also sentenced Shaikul Hadis Mufti Mohammad Jashim Uddin Mohammad Rahamani five years in jail and Sadman Yasir Mahmud three years jail. Absconding convict Rana did not file any appeal. Seven convicts including Foysal Bin Nayeem filed appeal. Rajeeb, known as Thaba Baba to the blogging community, was hacked to death on February 15, 2013 near his Pallabi residence, only 10 days into the historic movement at Shahbagh demanding the death penalty for the 1971 war criminals and a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir. A day after the murder, the victim’s father Nazim Uddin filed a murder case with Pallabi police station.
