Responding to a writ petition filed by three slum dwellers, the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued a rule asking why the eviction drive without prior notice was not be declared illegal.
Khurshid Alam Khan, lawyer of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust provided the legal assistance to petitioners.
“The Dhaka North City Corporation has been conducting the eviction drive at Jannatbagh since January 2 with the assistance of mobile court,” Khurshid said.
“The writ was filed as the drive was started without any prior notice. The court primarily heard the matter and asked the government to come up with an explanation by four weeks,” Khurshid added.
