Gulshan attack suspect Hasnat denied bail again

Update : 04 Jan 2017, 02:01 PM
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shottobroto Shikdar scrapped the bail petition submitted by Hasnat’s counsel Md Moinul Hossain on Wednesday afternoon. Terming Hasnat a victim of circumstances, the defence counsel mentioned in the bail petition that Hasnat had been to the café along with his family to celebrate their daughter’s birthday. On August 13, another court had sent Hasnat to jail rejecting his bail petition after the Counter-Terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police had produced him before it on completion of his eight-day remand. The same day, he was shown arrested in the Gulshan terror attack case filed with Gulshan police under the anti-terrorism act. Hasnat, a former teacher of North South University, was first shown arrested under section 54 of the CrPC on August 3. He is the only person arrested in connection with the July 1 militant attack on a Gulshan eatery, the worst in Bangladesh’s history, in which 24 people, including 17 foreigners, were killed. Hasnat was rescued along with 12 others during the commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery at the city’s diplomatic zone Gulshan on July 2 following a 12-hour hostage standoff.
