The three owners of Apan Jewellers have been remanded for one-day each in the cases filed against them for money laundering and tax evading.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan confirmed the Dhaka Tribune of the court orders on Thursday.
The three owners are Dildar Ahmed and his two brothers Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed.
Last Monday, CIID officials had pleaded for three days to question the trio in the cases.
Earlier, the three were jailed on October 24 after they surrendered in separate courts, a day after warrants were issued for their arrests.
On August 12, CIID sued the Apan Jewellers owners after 15 maunds of illegal gold and some diamonds were recovered from five of its branches in the city.
Five CIID assistant revenue officers filed the five cases – two with Gulshan police station, one with Dhanmondi police station, one with Ramna police station and one with Uttara police station - following directives from the National Board of Revenue.
Apan Jewellers had come to the limelight after the rape of two female private university students by Shafat Ahmed, son of Dildar Ahmed, and his accomplice at a Banani hotel.
Following CIID requests, the Anti-Corruption Commission has also launched its own investigation into the three owners.
