In a sudden and major reshuffle, 10 officials of the Supreme Court’s Appellate and High Court divisions, including the registrar general, have been transferred amid a controversy surrounding Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
The Law and Justice Division of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry issued the government orders in this regard on Sunday afternoon, reports UNB.
Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam has been made chairman of Bangladesh Minimum Wage Board, High Court Division Registrar Abu Syed Diljar Hussain has been transferred as Special Judge of Dhaka Court No 3, Appellate Division Additional Registrar Arunava Chakraborty as additional district judge of Satkhira, High Court Division Additional Registrar (Administration and Judiciary) Md Sabbir Faiz as additional district judge of Lalmonirhat.
The High Court Division's Additional Registrar (Finance and Development) Md Jabid Hossain has been made judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Lalmonirhat, Special Officer Ismail Hossain has been transferred as additional district judge of Barguna, and Chief Justice’s Personal Secretary Mohammad Anishur Rahman as additional district judge of Panchagarh.
Also, the High Court Division's Deputy Registrar (General and Original Jurisdiction) Mohammad Kamal Hossain Sikder has been transferred as Chuadanga joint district judge, Deputy Registrar (Administration and Judicial) Md Azizul Haque as Thakurgaon joint district judge, and Deputy Registrar (Finance) Farjana Yesmin as joint district judge of Pirojpur.
The government orders came a day after the Supreme Court in a rare statement levelled 11 accusations against Chief Justice Sinha, who is now abroad on a month-long leave. The allegations against him include money laundering, financial scam, corruptions and moral degradation.
Earlier, acting chief justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah had sent a proposal over these transfers to the ministry for its approval.
Last Wednesday, he and Law Minister Anisul Huq had held a 40-minute-long meeting at the acting chief justice’s office on the “administrative changes” the latter proposed.
Apart from the 10 officials from the Supreme Court, the Law Ministry on Sunday also shuffled 15 other officials of the district judge, additional district judge and joint district judge levels in different districts of the country.
