The HC passed the ruling on Tuesday, adding that the proceedings of five cases of extortion and tax evasion will continue against Tarique, who has been living in London throughout the case proceedings.
“After Tariqe’s petitions challenging the trial proceedings were heard, a HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order,” Deputy Attorney General Taposh Kumar Biswas said.
The three extortion cases were among those cited and were filed with Gulshan, Shahbagh, and Kafrul police between 2007 and 2008.
The two other cases were filed with a Dhaka court during the last caretaker government’s tenure. At the time, the HC issued a rule staying the case proceedings but the HC has now withdrawn this.
