A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of multiple properties owned by former MP and singer Momtaz Begum as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Tuesday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.

The seized assets include a five-storey house in Mohakhali DOHS, two two-storey houses in Singair upazila of Manikganj, a four-storey house in Manikganj Sadar, and nine kathas of land in Purbachal. The court also ordered the seizure of additional land measuring 5 decimals in Manikganj, seven decimals in Singair, and 412.51 decimals of land in Singair.

According to the ACC, the total value of the seized properties—excluding a two-storey ancestral house in Manikganj—has been shown as Tk11.81 crore.

ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Sirajul Islam filed the application seeking the seizure of the immovable assets. The application states that an investigation into allegations of money laundering against Momtaz Begum and individuals and organisations linked to her interests is underway, and that seizure of the properties is necessary while the probe continues.

Momtaz Begum was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch from Dhanmondi on the night of May 13 last year. She was later shown arrested in several cases, placed on remand, and is currently in jail.
