A Dhaka court has fixed December 1 for delivering the verdict in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case filed against Sheikh Rehana and 17 others over alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 30-katha Rajuk plot in Purbachal New Town.
Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 set the date on Wednesday after hearing the arguments, ACC prosecutor Tariqul Islam confirmed.
Meanwhile, the trial in a separate case against Sheikh Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddiq (Bobby) and daughter Azmina Siddique on similar charges is ongoing.
Although the court had scheduled the deposition of the investigation officer in Azmina’s case for last Sunday, it did not take place.
During the proceedings, the only accused currently in custody — suspended Rajuk member Khurshid Alam, who surrendered earlier — was produced before the court.
The ACC launched its investigation on December 26, 2024, into plots allocated to Sheikh Hasina and her family members.
On March 10, the ACC submitted charge sheets in six cases, alleging that a 60-katha plot in Rajuk’s Purbachal New Town project was allocated through abuse of power and irregularities.
In January, the ACC filed six separate cases over the alleged corruption. Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed (Putul), sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter and British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddique, son Radwan Mujib Siddiq, daughter Azmina Siddique and several others were named as accused. Charge sheets in all cases have since been submitted.
According to the case documents, Sheikh Hasina and her family members allegedly abused state power while holding the highest office and secured six plots on Road 203, Sector 27 of the Purbachal Housing Project despite not being eligible for the allocations.
