The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of Sheikh Hasina.

The cases were lodged on Thursday at Dhaka’s Integrated District Office-1 by ACC Deputy Director Tahasin Munabil Haque.

One case accuses Putul of securing the position of regional director for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Southeast Asia region by providing false information.

The second case alleges that she coerced 20 banks, under the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), to contribute Tk33 crore from their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to her organization, Shuchona Foundation.

According to the case statement, Saima Wazed Putul, who serves as the chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, submitted a bio-data (CV) to the WHO in 2023 while applying for the Regional Director position.

The complaint states that she falsely claimed to have been involved in teaching and reviewing educational manuals at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), despite not having participated in such activities. By securing the WHO position based on this misrepresentation, she committed an offense punishable under the Anti-Corruption Act.

The second case states that, with the assistance of Mohammad Nazrul Islam Mazumder, chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks, former Chairman of EXIM Bank, and chairman of Nasa Group, Saima Wazed Putul unlawfully compelled 20 banks under BAB to provide Tk33 crore from their CSR funds to Shuchona Foundation.
