The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court has imposed a travel ban on Jahangir Alam, project director of the Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power Project, and his wife Nusrat Jahan.
Acting Judge Mohammad Ibrahim Mia issued the order on Thursday in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Assistant Director S M Rashedul Hasan submitted the petition, expressing concerns that Jahangir Alam might leave the country to evade the investigation against him and his wife.
In addition to Jahangir Alam and Nusrat Jahan, the petition also sought a travel ban on Liaquat Ali Lucky, former Director General of the Shilpakala Academy.
The court ruled that the travel ban was necessary to prevent the couple from fleeing during the ongoing investigation.
