ACC sues ex-chairman of Rajshahi Education Board over illegal wealth

Accused Abul Kalam Azad provided false information regarding his assets, says the case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Abul Kalam Azad, the former chairman of Rajshahi Education Board, for amassing illegal wealth.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director Sudip Kumar Chowdhury filed the case with the Integrated District Office in Rajshahi on Sunday.

Muhammad Arif Sadeq, deputy director (public relations) of the ACC, confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.

According to the case, Abul Kalam Azad provided false information in his statement of assets of Tk22.8 lakh while the ACC found evidence of the acquisition of movable and immovable property worth Tk43.93 lakh.

At the same time, the ACC's investigation team also found that he had tried to transfer the amount through various bank accounts which is a punishable offense under the Money Laundering Act.

He has been charged under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act as the matter was proved during the preliminary investigation.
