Residents of Satkhira's Kaliganj upazila held a demonstration over the alleged corruption committed by employees of Kaliganj Rural Electrification Board (REB) of the district.
The residents alleged that corrupt officials of Kaliganj REB have extorted money in exchange for providing electricity connections to the respective unions and are trying to give the government a bad name by not resolving the issue of load-shedding in the area.
They also demanded exemplary punishment of the corrupt officials.
The protesters marched on the main roads of the upazila and ended in a gathering at the upazila’s bus-stand on Sunday.
The protest was led by the former president of Kaliganj unit of Awami League GM Mahtab Uddin.
Kaliganj upazila Chairman Alhaj Sheikh Waheduzzaman, upazila freedom fighter Commander Abdul Hakim, representatives of the Krishna Nagar, South Sreepur, Dholbaria and Moutala unions, among others, joined the protest.
