The conference was arranged to show the yearly progress of the Ministry at their conference room but when reporters began to ask questions about brokers and syndicates charging Tk5 lakh to Tk6 lakh as opposed to the government set amount of Tk1.65 lakh, the minister denied the existence of such groups and said:
“Send us a written complain about the matter and we will look into it,” before ending the press conference abruptly.
The press conference also mentioned that the Government to Government Plus agreement with the Malaysian government has not began because they did not send a demand letter for Bangladeshi workers yet.
The minister also said that they were expecting to send more than 800,000 migrant workers this year to new markets like Russia, Australia, Thailand and some other European countries.
The Ministry has taken the initiative to give all Bangladeshi migrants insurance coverage and has plans to construct a Hospital specially for the migrants workers and their families.
Last year 7,57,731 Bangladeshis migrated to different countries around the world which was a 36.31% rise from 2015 but the remittance flow had drastically fallen during that time.
In 2016, Bangladesh received $13.61billion which was lowest in the last four years.
