The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Tuesday organised the UAP Research Excellence Award 2026 at the UAP Auditorium, recognising outstanding contributions to research, innovation, knowledge creation, publications and academic excellence.
The event, organised by the Institute for Research, Innovation and Development (IRID), was held as part of UAP’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Six distinguished faculty members were recognised for their achievements in research and publications. Prof Dr Tanveer Ferdous Saeed of the Department of Civil Engineering received the gold medal, crest and certificate for securing first place.
Prof Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan and Prof Dr Mohammad Shahriar of the Department of Pharmacy received the silver medal, crest and certificate and bronze medal, crest and certificate, respectively.
Three other emerging researchers were also recognised with crests and certificates for their research achievements.
Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attended the programme as the chief guest.
K M Mozibul Hoque, chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of UAP, was present as the special guest, while Prof Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, acting vice-chancellor of UAP, chaired the programme.
Prof Md Mehedi Hasan Khan and Prof Dr Md Aslam Hossain, both members of the UGC, attended as guests of honour.
In his remarks, Prof Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan urged faculty members to make greater use of UAP’s research facilities, resources and budgetary support, stressing that stronger research is essential to academic excellence and institutional reputation.
KM Mozibul Hoque said the BOT, along with UAP teachers, officers and employees, had worked with dedication and responsibility to advance the university’s progress over the past three decades in education, research and knowledge creation.
UGC Chairman Prof Mamun Ahmed said public and private universities shared the same fundamental mission of ensuring quality education and advancing knowledge.
He stressed that research should go beyond publications and focus on knowledge creation, innovation and solutions to societal challenges.
The programme also featured the launch of the UAP Research Policy Booklet and leaflet, a showcase of departmental research activities and a promotional video on UAP-IRID.
Members of the board of trustees, vice-chancellors of different universities, faculty members, officials, researchers, students and other members of the UAP community attended the event.
The initiative reflects UAP’s growing emphasis on research quality, Q1 and Q2 publications, innovation and impactful research, while encouraging greater research engagement to strengthen the university’s national and international academic standing.
