Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed has said the decision regarding army deployment in the city corporation polls in Dhaka and Chittagong will be taken in a day or two.
He made the statement while addressing the media after a meeting with law enforcement agencies at the Election Commission secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “They [the law enforcement agencies] have assured us the pre-election period is normal, and in this case we are unsure about the need to deploy the army.”
“I will sit with the other election commissioners and decide on the matter in a day or two,” he added.
Inspector generals of Police, Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Coast Guard, additional commissioner of Special Branch, National Security Intelligence (NSI) and other high officials of the Election Commission and the law enforcement agencies were present in the meeting.
The Dhaka North, South and Chittagong City Corporations elections are slated to be held on April 28.
