The rescue operation at the site of collapsed tin-shed two-storey house in Mati Masjid area in the capital’s Rampura may be called off today.
Dhaka District Deputy Commissioner Toffazzal Hossain Miah said: “As there is no claim for people missing we might call off our operation tomorrow (today).”
He said the rescue team tried their best to recover the lower part of the collapsed house but failed to do so.
The victims’ families have already taken away their belongings recovered from under the water, he said adding that there could be a little possibility of recovery of any body from the place of incident.
Rampura police are yet to arrest the owner of the collapsed house Munir Chowdhury, Jubo League President of Ward 23.
Assistant Commissioner (Motijheel Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Nurul Alam said he had gone into hiding after the incident.
ADC Abul Fazal Mir earlier said the land is owned by individuals.
According to Mujibor Rahman Chowdhury, elder brother of the accused and also Ward 23 coulcillor aspirant, the land was registered in the name of Monir’s son Anay Chowdhury.
At least twelve people including four of a family died when the two-storey house made of corrugated iron sheets collapsed into a water body in the capital’s Rampura on Wednesday.
