Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) called upon the people of the country to form an alternative left political force to get rid of the negative politics of the two major political parties.
The left combine of the two parties said this at a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital yesterday.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) asserted that even after 40 years, Bangladesh still has no democracy and peace.
At the rally, Mujahidul Islam Selim, president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, said: “While Awami League’s regime has become awful, the BNP regime would be worse and a Jamaat-e-Islami regime far worse. We have to come out from their rule.”
“The kind of government we have had in the last 40 years cannot bring peace to our country, and cannot change its situation,” he added.
Selim told the government: “How can our nation’s people live in peace?”
And to opposition party leader Begum Khaleda Zia, he said: “While you have the right to carry on a movement against the government, you cannot kill people in the name of movement.”
General Secretary of BSD, Khalequzzaman, said: “There has been no democracy in Bangladesh after the liberation war, and it is still absent here.”
“According to our opposition leaders, this unstable situation has been created to save people and our democracy,” added Khalequzzaman.
Organisers at the convention declared a two-day programme for March 1 to March 2, in which they will observe Tajul Day and hold a rally and mass procession in several parts of the country.
