Some excellent art works of well-known contemporary artist Md Tokon are being exhibited under the title of “Light, Dark, Space” at the Bengal Art Lounge in the capital.
Paintings of Tokon are pure abstractions of nature, emotion and passion. Figurative element is completely absent in his creations.
The works are the portrayal of artist’s personal experience and his sense of nature through the striking features of multidimensional layers, effects of light, colour emphasis and tonal schisms.
Drawing influences from past artistic endeavors such as romanticism, impressionism or abstract expressionism, the artist has brushed layers of translucent colors depicting human craving and emotions. Universal culture of east and west receives a praise-worthy execution in his artworks.
Tokon’s brilliant compositions are images of life and its changes with the passage of time.
Standing in front of his paintings with active engagement one will find him/herself in a moment of nature which are successfully titled, “I touch the green, green grass of home”, “The morning fantasy”, “Walk into the light” or “After the rain”.
Beholding the paintings, “Don’t let the sun go down” or “Take my hand and walk the red land”, we meet with our urges to nature and reflection of our longings. Md Tokon studied at The Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University and moved to New York in 2001. He obtained his B.A. in Art and Communication Design at The City University of New York.
Now the artist lives in the US and works with the prestigious Art Students League of New York.
The exhibition will be on display till February 21.
