Jessore software park likely to get Tk77.99 crore

A proposal of Tk77.99 crore to construct a 15 storied building at the software technology park in Jessore is going to be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) tomorrow.

A joint venture of the Spectra Engineers Limited (SEL) and McDonald Steel Building Products Limited (MSBPL) is likely to get the work order for constructing the building, according to sources in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) division.

Earlier, the companies were awarded with a work order to construct a four storied building, which is now going to increase up to 15 storied at the same palace.

With the increase of the building’s height, the total cost of the of software technology park project will rise to Tk240.74 crore which is almost five times higher than the initial estimated cost. 

At the beginning,  the total cost for the project was fixed only Tk47.95 crore, and it was scheduled to be completed by September 2014.

But the Hi-tech Park Authority placed a proposal to increase the project cost around Tk88.5 crore before ending the time limit. 

“Initially our plan was to build a four storied building at the project site. But the government has asked us to increase it up to 15 storied,” said Hosne Ara Begum, managing director of Hi-Tech Park Authority.

The first phase of construction work of the Jessore hi-tech park is expected be finished by March this year.

According to official document, the park authority will build a steel structure Multi-Tenant Building of more than 145,000 square feet with estimated cost of Tk80.01 crore.

A 12 storied dormitory building costing around Tk52.33; a 33KV electric sub-station of Tk20.54 crore, and an MP theatre hall of Tk18.18 crore will also be constructed at the technology park. 

Moreover, five sets of ICT equipment will be procured with cost of Tk14.58 crore for the park.

State Minister for ICT division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the government will also  construct 10 more high-tech parks in the country.

Around 70,000 skilled professionals will be trained for parks in next four years, he said.
