Six people have been killed and 10 others injured as a train derailed after being hit by a covered van near Kamalapur container terminal in the capital.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Government Railway Police Sub-Inspector Sirajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that two of them died on the spot on Monday afternoon.
A fire service official said the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Residential Surgeon Reazul Morshed said: “Of the injured, one was already dead while three others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.”
“Three of the injured are in critical condition.”
The fire fighters are conducting the salvage operation.
While visiting the spot, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque said the incident was very unfortunate and unexpected.
He also formed a three-member probe body over the incident.
