A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to form an expert committee to investigate the reason behind the failure to rescue Jihad.
Supreme Court lawyer Syed Mayeenul Hoque filed the writ petition on Sunday afternoon.
Home secretary, director general and director (operation) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, managing director of WASA, director general of Bangladesh Railway, inspector general of Police, DMP commissioner, officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur police station, deputy commissioner of Dhaka division have been made respondents to the writ.
The petitioner sought the court’s directive to form an expert committee to enquire and investigate the reason behind the failure to rescue Jihad and abandonment of the rescue operation. The petitioner has also sought inclusion of local volunteers in the committee.
Jihad was found dead inside the abandoned 600-ft deep water pump pipe at capital's Shahjahanpur Railway Colony on Saturday afternoon, almost a full day (23 hours) after he fell into it.
The boy was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead.
According to the forensic report, Jihad died because of drowning in the water of the abandoned well.
