Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in Dhaka on Saturday on a three-day official visit at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart AH Mahmood Ali.
Yi is due to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6.40pm in the capital, reports BSS.
The visit is mainly aimed at reviewing the progress on some memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Exchange inked between the two countries during the official visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to China in June this year.
Two MoUs signed between the two countries during Sheikh Hasina's visit were on cooperation in the establishment of Chinese economic and industrial zone in Bangladesh and the construction of a multi-lane road tunnel under the river Karnaphuli.
During his stay in Dhaka, Wang Yi is expected to call on President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other senior ministers of the government.
He will also hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali on Sunday.
The entire gamut of bilateral issues, including trade related matters and Chinese cooperation in Bangladesh's important sectors, is expected to come up for discussion.
The two ministers will also discuss the programmes to be jointly organised to celebrate the 40th anniversary of establishment of Dhaka-Beijing diplomatic relations in 2015 in a befitting manner.
Sources, however, said discussion would be held on reducing the existing trade gap between the two countries during the bilateral talks.
According to statistics, Bangladesh exported goods of $458.12 million to China in 2012-2013 fiscal against imports of $6.30 billion.
The Chinese foreign minister will leave Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
