Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman said the government had started looking into the allegations of question leakage at the Primary School Certificate examinations this year.
The minister made the comment while visiting an under-construction district Scout building at B M School Road in Barisal city yesterday morning.
“The government is taking these allegations seriously, and is trying to figure out the facts in this regard as well as find the probable leaks in the ministry, the Directorate of Primary Education, and printing press,” he said while addressing the event as chief guest.
In reply to a reporter’s question, the minister further said the government was working to ensure primary teaching in a risk-free environment, and work for repairing and reconstructing all dilapidated school buildings was underway.
The minister also assured that the new textbook would be supplied in due time.” Books have already been sent to the schools in remote areas,” he said.
The minister also criticised the custom of having school children stand beside the road to give ovation to the visiting VIPs such as ministers and lawmakers.
“I do not think the lawmakers feel any special welcome by that. We should change our mindset and eliminate this bad practice. I myself am trying to change it, and I also urge all the others to do so,” he said.
The programme was attended by Shahidul Alam, deputy commissioner of the district, Mahbube Elahi, divisional deputy director of the Directorate of Primary Education, Qari Lutfar Rahman, district Scout officer, and other high officials of the administration as well.
The minister also inaugurated the centenary festival of Baptist Mission School in the city.
There, he said the distribution of free text books and mass scholarship increased the attendance and pass rates of primary students.
Awami League lawmaker Advocate Talukdar Md Yunus was present at the inauguration ceremony.
