Update : 05 Dec 2014, 08:34 PM

A solo caricature exhibition titled “Meet the Faces” by Nasreen Sultana Mitu was inaugurated yesterday at the Alliance Française de Dhaka in the city’s Dhanmondi area.

In the exhibition, her artworks on display portray most of the noted artists of Bangladesh, with exaggerating portraits of SM Sultan, Runa Laila, Priyabhashini, Marilyn Monroe and others, containing wit and sarcasm.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Ahsan Habib, editor of satirical magazine Unmad, eminent artist Shishir Bhattacharjee, and sculptor Ferdousi Priyovashini, among others.

The exhibition will remain open until December 18.

Mitu has been professionally drawing cartoons and caricatures since 2006. She began cartooning while working at Unmad, where she is currently an assistant editor. She is also a lecturer at the Institute of Education and Research at Rajshahi University.

She found her flair for drawing caricature in 2011. Her extraordinary and unorthodox interpretation of human faces is a celebrated item in the social media. Mitu explains an exclusive form of art that conveys human characteristics beyond politics and pop culture.

One of her most popular works was the 2013 Rana Plaza incident. Her cartoon, where a Denim jeans price tag is depicting the price as blood drops, was an immediately hit on the social media. Several national television channels featured this cartoon . Its theme and concept is still being used and mentioned in columns and statements by journalists, writers and social change makers.
