A five-member lawyers team have arrived at the Dhaka Central Jail to meet war crimes convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.
The team arrived at the jail around 10am on Thursday.
Kamaruzzaman's lawyer Shishir Monir said: “We submitted an application to the jail authority regarding the matter on Wednesday. They told us to arrive here in the morning.”
“The authority said we will be allowed to meet Kamaruzzaman after a while,” he said.
When asked about the meeting, he said: “We are meeting him to decide about the legal proceedings for his review petition.”
Law Minister Anisul Haq Wednesday ordered the jail authorities to take the necessary preparations in order to execute Kamaruzzaman.
Kamaruzzaman, the senior assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, will get seven days to seek the presidential clemency, said the law minister in a press briefing.
On Wednesday, the family members of condemned war criminal Mohammad Kamaruzzaman have met with him at Dhaka Central Jail.
On May 9 last year, International Crimes Tribunal awarded death sentence to Kamaruzzaman for committing heinous crimes against humanity. He appealed against the judgement after a month.
On Monday, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty to Kamaruzzaman for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
On Tuesday, Kamaruzzaman was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur.
