Homegrown aid web-portal “Aid Information Management System or AIMS” has been launched for better, efficient and transparent foreign assistance management.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the portal at a ceremony at the NEC auditorium in capital's Sher-e-Banglanagar, organized by the Economic Relations Division (ERD), reports BSS.
Speaking on the occasion, the finance minister said the initiative taken by the ERD, through AIMS, is commendable for building online database regarding foreign aid.
Emphasizing the necessity of online-based database, Muhith said the information system would help a little bit understanding about national resources coming from both domestic and external sources.
"The AIMS will play a key tool to track different aspects of foreign assistance," he added.
The government has developed the AIMS to increase the capacity to coordinate and manage the foreign development aid alongside maintaining transparency and mutual accountability.
Different kinds of AIMS software such as Development Assistance Database (DAD) and Aid Management Platform (AMP) have already been deployed in more than 40 countries.
However, Bangladesh is one of the few countries to deploy a homegrown system which is more economical, highly customisable and sustainable.
The Aid Information Management System or AIMS is a software application that records and processes the information on development activities and related aid flows in a given country.
An AIMS captures project-level information on commitments, disbursements and expenditures by donor, implementer, sector and geographic location.
Bangladesh AIMS will now serve as a single-entry window for all foreign aid related information in Bangladesh-which means that anyone will be able to access information related to the inflow and disbursement of foreign aid in Bangladesh through accessing the AIMS website.
The ERD with support from its "Strengthening Capacity for Aid Effectiveness in Bangladesh" project has developed the application.
