The Bangladesh female shooters put up a poor display in the 10m air-rifle event of the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.
Sharmin Akter, who clinched 30th position out of 53 shooters, was the best performer among the three women representatives of Bangladesh. Sharmin scored 409.2 points while another Bangladeshi shooter, Syeda Sadia Sultana, placed 33rd, scored 408.8 points.
Sharmin Ratna, who claimed third position in the qualifiers before finishing sixth in the final round of the recently concluded Glasgow Commonwealth Games, failed to replicate her form in Glasgow to Incheon as she was the worst performer among the three contestants. The South Asian Games gold medallist Ratna, who also won gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, concluded her campaign in 36th and scored only 407 points whereas her aggregate score in Glasgow was 413.8 points.
The Bangladesh women’s team in 10m shooting, comprised of Sharmin, Sadia and Ratna, ended 10th among 15 teams with a points tally of 1225. China won the gold medal in the event while Iran and South Korea bagged silver and bronze respectively.
Three Bangladesh male shooters – Abdullah Hel Baki, Mahmudul Hasan and Jesimuzzaman – will take on the range in the men’s 10m air-rifle event today.
Meanwhile in the men’s preliminary Pool B match, the Bangladesh beach volleyball team, comprising Monir Hossain and Horosit Biswas, lost by 2-0 sets to Sim Khlork and Lim Samatof of Cambodia.
