Misappropriation charge: DMCH ex-director indicted

A Dhaka court has framed charges against seven people, including a former director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, in a corruption case filed for misappropriating over Tk2.31 crore.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge Md Jahrul Haque framed the charges rejecting their bail plea on Tuesday afternoon.

On August 27, the same court had sent the accused to jail when they surrendered before it.

However, two of the accused doctors – former senior lecturer of practical pharmacy Dr Md Moshiur Rahman and Assistant Professor Dr Atiar Rahman – fled the court when it cancelled their bail pleas.

Later, the two physicians were sent to jail on September 7.

The other accused are former deputy director Md Fazullah, former cashier Nazrul Islam (1), former accounts officer Nazrul Islam (2), and Habibur Rahman, proprietor of surgical instrument supplier ‘‘Habib Traders.”

According to the case details, the accused in connivance with each other misappropriated Tk2.31 crore from different machinery purchase.

Anti-Corruption Commission Assistant Director Syed Tahsinul Haque filed the corruption case with Shahbagh police on November 16, 2011.

The charge sheet was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on May 15 of this year. Later it was sent to the Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge’s Court for trial.
