A person has been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Mugdapara area in the capital.
Deputy Commissioner of DB (West) Sheikh Nazmul Alam said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police raided Green Model Town area to catch some criminals on Sunday morning.”
Sensing their presence, the criminals fired gunshots at the law enforcers.
In retaliation, police fired back at the criminals which triggered a “gunfight.” Three people including two police officials were injured in the incident.
He said: “The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared the criminal dead around 11am.”
The DC said the deceased was a firearm smuggler.
The details regarding the incident will be disclosed later, added Sheikh Nazmul Alam.
