Tarique, Fakhrul sued for remarks on PM
A defamation case has been filed against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jononetri Parishad, a pro-Awami league organisation, filed the case with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Monday.
8 jhut godowns gutted in Gazipur
Eight jhut (garment factory waste) godowns have been gutted in a fire that broke out at Palli Biddyut area under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur early Monday.
Kaliakoir Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Official Apurba Bal said: “The fire originated from trader Altaf Hossain’s jhut (garment factory waste) godown around 4:45am."
PM's daughter gets WHO award
The World Health Organization (WHO) has nominated Saima Wazed Hossain Putul, the daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for the South Asia Award for Excellence in Public Health.
She has been selected for the award in recognition of her “glorious and outstanding” contributions to create mass awareness about autism in Bangladesh.
ACC quizzes MP Enamul
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has quizzed ruling party lawmaker from Rajshahi 4 constituency MP Enamul Haque following the allegation of accumulation of illegal wealth.
The ACC authority started quizzing Enamul at 9am and it continued till 10:30am, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharia, public relations officer of the anti-corruption body, told the Dhaka Tribune.
