Rendezvous of underground bands

Underground music scene of the country revived once again with a participation of twelve bands in the gig “Last Revolution” at the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh Auditorium yesterday presented by Music Theater Live.

Cryptic Fate, the much anticipated band of the gig, took the stage as showstopper and the band’s heavy yet melodic sound brought the fans to life who were unsure about the performance of the band until the last minute. Though the band seemed to be little disappointed over less number of audience at the time of their stage seizing the viewers’ constant demand for songs from the band’s latest album “Noy Mash” and vigorous cheering reversed the atmosphere in a while. Cryptic Fate started surfing wave of groovy sound with heavy metal track “Rag”  followed by “Bichchhu” a track from the latest album, and a few of their popular tracks. Sarfaraz Latifullah and Farhan Samad, the guitarists of the group, were on chipper form in front of the crowd, as if their rolling riffs could have flattened the venue.

Stentorian began their performance with their original track “Onubhuti” and covered songs of a few internationally acclaimed bands including Guns N’ Roses’ and AC/DC track. The vocal, Rabiul Awal Real, delivered the requisite pitch with his voice to uphold the beauty of classic hard rock and the audience welcomed them thoroughly.

With unique performance on stage and reciprocation with audience Mechanix seized the stage with the track “Bhranto Shopno”  followed by “Bismoy,” “Shopner Chorus,” and “Oporajeyo.” An unfettered joy in the air at hearing one of band’s landmark sounds being brought to life and seemingly a similar sense of happiness on stage that people willingly responded to that sound.

Regiment, a band established with the aim to raise voice against injustice and massacre occurred in the Liberation War performed an original track with such lyrics and music. They also covered a few songs including Dream Theatre’s “Pull Me Under” and System Of A Down’s “Toxicity.”

Ashes, a psychedelic rock group with alternative lyrics and music, distributed their debut album titled “Chharpoka” among the attendants performed few of their songs from the latest album including “Chup Chap Sharadin” followed by a performance paying tribute to the legendary Bangladeshi band Nagar Baul.

Other bands who performed in the gig were Owned, Minerva, Dr. Doctor, Silent Time, Unspecified, Connected and Metrical. The gig was first initiative by Music Theatre Live who are committed to bringing similar shows in the future with more variance.
