Israel and Hamas 'agree new truce'
Israel and Hamas have agreed to an unconditional 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza from 08:00 (05:00 GMT) on Friday, the US and UN say.
Since Israel began its offensive in Gaza on 8 July, 1,422 Palestinians have been killed, most of them civilians, according to Gaza's health ministry.
10 killed as train crashes into wedding bus
At least 10 members of a wedding party have been killed and over 50 others injured as a train hit a wedding-party bus at Barobazar under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah early Friday.
Of the deceased, eight have been identified as Sudhir Kumar Biswas, 40, son of late Anil Biswas, Biplab Biswas, 25, son of Jagabandhu Biswas, Shovon De, 25, son of Mahaprasad De, Kowshik, 8, Oishi, 7, Banya Rani, 65, Trisna Rani, 24, and Ujjal Das. All the victims hailed from Phulahari village under Sailkupa upaila.
Kaliganj police sub inspector Akimul Islam confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the causality.
BSF picks up Bangladeshi from Thakurgaon
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has picked up a Bangladeshi youth from Dharmagar border in Takhurgaon on Friday morning, a day after the BSF returned four Bangladeshis.
The victim, Md Jahangir, 22, was picked up around 11:30am.
2 killed in ticket blackers' clash
At least two people have been killed and four others injured in a clash between two groups of train ticket blackers at Iswardi By-pass station under Lalpur upazila in Natore on Friday morning.
The deceased are Jamaat Ali, 37, son of Akbar Ali, of Dohorshoila village of Lalpur upazila and Jibon Ali, 17, son of Abdur razzak, of Shoilopara village of Iswardi.
Swimming banned in Jaflong's Piain river
The District administration has imposed ban on bathing and swimming in Piain river in Jaflong of Sylhet following the death of five tourists.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam said: “The local administration has imposed the temporary ban. The law enforcers, led by Goainghat UNO and OC, will be carrying out their duties on the spot from Friday morning.”
Counsel cashed Tuba crisis
Tuba Group’s imprisoned Managing Director Delowar Hossain’s counsel capitalised the mounting crisis surrounding the unpaid dues of some 1,600 workers in five garment factories in the capital’s Badda area, as he secured bail for his client from a High Court bench just before the summer vacations of the Supreme Court began on July 25.
On July 24, the bench granted two month’s ad interim bail to Delowar – also owner of Tazreen Fashion where a fire killed 112 workers in November 2012.
AL plans month-long programmes to mourn August 15
The Awami League and like-minded organisations have chalked out month-long programmes to observe the month of mourning.
The Awami League Central Working Committee at a meeting on July 28 at Ganabhaban finalised the programmes.
The associate bodies will finalise programmes at a joint meeting to be held at the political office of party chief Sheikh Hasina on Saturday.
Bangladeshis to face charges for picking up Indian
The police are set to detain two brothers from picking an Indian national up by entering inside the Indian territory on Thursday.
